Round 3 – The flightless birds take flight

With the cream starting to rise to the top at the end of round 2 and teams starting to display their dominance it created some juicy match ups for round 3.Caboolture were on an unbeaten streak coming up against Cairns who had also only been tasting the sweet taste of victory. Wavell and  Mackay looking to keep fighting for the top position as we enter the mid-way point of the season.

After their dominance in round 1 and 2, Caboolture knew that they needed to keep that momentum going to ensure they didn’t get crushed by the mighty Cairns Crushers; and they started with a Boom!!! Team Boom from the Caboolture comp got them off to a flyer with getting 8 of their team members engaged in the battle. However, Cairns battled home strong and evened it up 6-6 with both teams taking home a point.

With Maroochydore going down in another close one in round 2 they were looking for an easy win up against the win less Tweed Coast. The Ivory Toast team really dug deep again at Maroochydore and got maximum points along the way to ensure they got the win in a tight 3-0 contest. The win also gave them a bit of a buffer with the 10 bonus points with the Springfield Puma under 12 boys still hot on their tail.

Mackay and Springfield kept their dominant runs going. Coming off their demolition of the Assassins in round 2, Mackay kept their momentum going with another big 9-0 drubbing of the Toowoomba Ravens. After the question was asked whether Wavell were the real deal or not, they proved that they are the team to beat. They came up against the notorious Rockhampton Cyclones who went on the record saying that “they are as tough as nails and like to grind their opponents down.” In this case they ended up becoming chicken feed, going down by a whopping 58-8.

With a lot of big results coming from round 3 it leaves us with some questions to be answered heading into the back half of the season. We have some massive games in round 4 with some big top of the table clashes. There are currently 8 teams yet to taste a loss… Stay tuned to find out who has a fall from grace.
