LOCAL DERBY THRILLER KICKS OFF ROUND 1
There was never any doubt that there would be no love lost when the Bray Park Wildcats and Ferny Hills Rams went into battle on the Social Media field and this game certainly lived up to the hype. Off to an early lead the Ferny Hills team looked set to take the win and 2 points.
However this would not be the case as Scotty Hallett and his Bray Park team showed some magic to out muscle the Rams and set up the post that would lead to a 6 point victory with a 28-22 win. Ultimately leaving the Rams questioning if they are really ready for this or was all the pre-game talk just for show.
In other games Mackay carried in the underdog status leading into their first round game of the Social Media State Cup taking on the might of Townsville.
Mackay who earlier in the week had been written off by the punters proved they won’t be bullied and demolished the opposition with a 24-0 thumping. Which has got many asking how far can they go?
Sitting on top of the table after this first round they will be watching their backs as The Social Media powerhouses of North Lakes, Springfield and Bray Park all plot their moves to knock OFF Courtney Gordons, Mackay Mustangs and her 20 engaged teams off their perch.
While the bigger venues in the state did not get off to a great start do not underestimate the might and well drilled venues of Caloundra, Maroochydore and Rockhampton who are all just sitting outside the top eight and are ready drive home.
Caloundra Venue Manager Leigh De Jersey after their game said “we are in this”. “The more teams we get involved at the venue by doing the extra little 1% the better we will come week 5”. “Don’t write us off”……Nerang is this week and we are well prepared and ready to do battle”.
Early pace setters Ivory Toast (Maroochydore) have come out of round 1 with a whopping 72 Points after having their whole team turn up to play in the local team comp. But they aren’t in the clear just yet as the young and eager Pumas under 10’s (Springfield) and Pumas under 12 Boys (Springfield) gained a quick 56 points after also picking up the bonus points to only sit 16 points behind.
When quizzed on his local team’s success Ivory Toast Team leader Josh Booker said “I’m not giving too much away…. Except that the other teams have to chase us as this isn’t the first time you will see us at the top”.
We however have the inside word that The Ivory Toast team used a Group Facebook Page to make sure all jumped on board their venues post.
