National Juniors was bigger, wetter, muddier, and a whole lot funner (is that a word?) than anyone could have expected.
A BIG Thank You to all of the teams that represented QLD over the weekend, and an even bigger thank you to the team managers and families that took their kids along and braved the weather
3,300 Junior Oztag players, coaches and officials from 180 teams, including 44 QLD teams, met in Coffs Harbour at the C.Ex Coffs International Stadium and Coffs Coast Sport and Leisure Park fields for the Australian Junior Oztag Championships on October 13-15.
Friday afternoon started off well with a number of teams getting in some action packed first games. However, by Saturday, all play was abandoned as Mother Nature turned it on and tried to drown everything in one of the wettest days!
With Saturdays games abandoned during the first games, a contingency plan was drawn up for Sunday, with all fingers crossed that the fields would be suitable enough to play on.
Fortunately the rain stopped on Sunday for just long enough to play out the tournament. Using just 10 fields, matches were reduced to only 12 minutes each so as many games as possible could be played.
Despite the conditions all competing teams gave it their best shot. The Qld U13 girls Sonics team managed to take out their division, with the U14 Sonics boys finishing runners up in theirs.
Team Photo of the weekend also went to the Girls from the Sonics (Well I think it’s the Sonics – Couldn’t really tell)!
